About Ross
A proud former Loudoun County Public Schools student and a new parent of a future LCPS student, Ross Svenson is running for School Board to support the next generation of students, educators, and families.
Ross’s family moved to Ashburn when he was five years old, excited by the growing community and new schools. When Hillside Elementary School opened in 1998, Ross was part of the first class of first graders. Ross’s teachers at Hillside, and later at Eagle Ridge Middle School, fostered his passion for learning. An active member of the community in his teen and early adult years, Ross coached children of all ages with the Broadlands Piranhas Swim Team for seven seasons.
The excellent “new” schools Ross attended as a kid are now some of the best public schools in the country, providing Loudoun’s children a world-class education. When Ross and his wife, Marlou, were thinking about where to raise their growing family, Ashburn was at the top of their list because of the amazing public schools.
As a member of the Loudoun County School Board, Ross will do everything he can to foster a first-rate educational experience for LCPS students like his son. That means ensuring students of all backgrounds, experiences, and aspirations have a pathway to the American Dream. Whether a student is bound for a four-year college or exploring a trade, LCPS should be setting them up for success after graduation. Ross will work to strengthen LCPS’ cutting-edge STEM academies and special programs, expand academically rigorous offerings for students interested in the arts and social sciences, and prioritize resources for career and technical education, including the new Transition Center serving students with disabilities.
Ross supports a holistic, evidence-based approach to education and student wellbeing. As a member of the School Board, he will champion academic excellence and endeavor to make our schools a place where all students feel safe, seen, and respected. Ross also knows our schools are only as strong as our educators. To retain our excellent educators and recruit new talent, he supports competitive pay and benefits, as well as sustainable working conditions.
Ross will draw on his legal and policy background to make progress for our students, families, and educators in a collaborative and effective way, pursuing common sense solutions and policies that work. Ross worked as a legislative aide for Senator Mark Warner and helped secure federal funding for public education. He wants to put these skills to use to protect and increase funding for our public schools. First at Harvard Law School and later as an attorney working pro bono, Ross fought to protect civil rights, and he wants to use that experience to defend the rights of all of our students. As an attorney today specializing in antitrust and competition law, Ross represents clients when the stakes are at their highest, and he will bring that same sense of urgency to serving our students, empowering our educators, and engaging with families.
